Chris Ortega ’19 chose Shenandoah for its successful baseball program and the opportunities the School of Business provided him, which turned his passions into a career.
During his time at Shenandoah, Ortega fondly remembers being selected to attend the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, and the chance to take part in a real-world interview through the university’s Office of Career & Professional Development.
Ortega works for the Washington Commanders as an account executive. In his position, he organizes group outings, helps non-profit organization with fundraisers, and much more. Previously, Ortega worked for the Washington Nationals.
Ortega says one of his most rewarding experiences of his career so far was being a part of the Washington Nationals World Series win in 2019. In his current position, he enjoyed being involved in the professional rebrand of the Washington Commanders.
Ortega’s Shenandoah education afforded him the opportunity to gain real-world experiences, which launched him into a successful career in the sports management field.
Ortega’s advice to current and future students is to “learn to compete [for] and recognize opportunities.” “Everyone has the same time as you do. Whether you’re an athlete, having a job, or a dual major. It’s what you do with your time that will set you apart. Be involved in everything and anything you can,” said Ortega.
